SECONDARY PROGRAM

The Secondary Program consists of two classrooms, Level 6 and Level 7.  These classrooms are designed
to work with students in Middle School through High School.  The Level 6 & 7 classrooms combine their
students in formulating academic groups.  We believe small group instruction allows us to better meet the individual needs of each child in the following areas:  language/communication, social/emotional, behavior,
and functional, pragmatic living skills.  All activities and instruction are presented using direct instruction techniques.

Students in the Secondary Program participate in a community based skill class.  The class provides
instruction in public transportation.  The students learn about fares, transfers, routes, and practice riding
the city bus with staff members.  They also make weekly field trips to various businesses within the
community to practice money math and social skills.

The students are also provided the opportunity to
participate in the following electives:

  • Wood Working
  • Sewing
  • Humanities
  • Music/Choir
  • Cooking
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Study Hall/Tutoring
  • Student Aide
  • Drama

Students are able to select two electives per quarter.  They are required to participate in Humanities and Music at least once per year.

The long term goal of the Secondary Program is to prepare students for their transition to a vocational program and adult life.
